Scott Duncan – Apprentice Electrician, Clydeport.
“My name is Scott Duncan and I’m an Apprentice Electrician, working at Peel Ports Clydeport. I joined the Company in 2019."
After leaving school, Scott decided to follow the apprenticeship path believing it would provide a good grounding in a real-world workplace whilst still allowing him to develop practical and academic skills that were relevant to him.
“So far, I have developed a vast number of skills beneficial to my working practices during my time at Peel. These include learning to work effectively as part of a larger team, gaining an electrical understanding of how a plant operates and being able to diagnose a variety of electrical faults. However, if I had to pick a highlight so far it would definitely be completing my HNC/HND qualifications at college as well as obtaining my SVQ certification.’’

Scott isn’t the only one benefitting from his apprenticeship as Clydeport’s Engineering Manager Brian Smith, speaks highly of his recruit:

Scott has shown a real aptitude for engineering and always ensures that the jobs he undertakes is completed to the highest standard, in terms of safety, quality and customer delivery. We couldn’t be more delighted with his progress so far.”
Looking to the future, Scott now aims to build upon his existing developments as he continues his career in engineering.
‘’Now that I’m coming towards the end of my apprenticeship, I’ve begun considering my longer-term career. I’d like to stay at Peel Ports once my apprenticeship ends, becoming a full time engineer. I know that at Peel I’ll have the chance to continue progressing my practical skills and ultimately, I’d like to be at a point where I can take on an apprentice of my own.”
“My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship at Peel Ports would be to go for it. The working environment is very welcoming for new engineers, working conditions are safe and the day to day tasks are varied which all culminate in an enjoyable and beneficial job role.”
